Congratulations to Foundation Constructors employees for 4 years safe without a 'lost time' accident. As of December 21, 2011, FCI has 1460 safe days without a 'lost time' accident, quite an impressive accomplishment!
Foundation celebrated this accomplishment at our 2011 Awards Dinner.

Construction of a new research facility at the cutting edge UCSF campus in Mission Bay required the use of quiet piles at depths as long as 130’. Our 16X22 Tubex pile provided the most cost effective solution with a 1,320 kip ultimate capacity pile founded in bedrock.

December 21, 2009, was a milestone for Foundation; 730 safe days - Two years without a 'lost time' incident. AMAZING!!!

Foundation Drives TOUGH Batter Piles - see video clips!

Pre-Cast Concrete piles 105-feet long x 14-inch square driven at a 3:1 batter with a D-46 diesel impact hammer. The crane is a Manitowoc 4000 with 150-feet of boom and using 130-feet of PileCo U-32" leader.

Diesel Hammer Role in Pile Driving

Diesel hammers used to drive pile have been around for over 50 years. Diesel impact hammers deliver more force per square inch relative to hammer weight than other pile driving device. Diesel hammers can be used with almost any soil mechanics without compromising effectiveness.
Over the years diesel hammers have evolved into very efficient clean burning machines with much less noise than their older counterparts. They are not, however, the hammer of choice for low overhead situations or ultra-sensitive urban job sites without sound attenuation. The diesel hammer is activated by raising an internal ram or piston typically using a crane and dropping the ram using a quick release. Utilizing the joint forces of gravity and diesel combustion the diesel hammer provides very efficient energy. Foundation pile driving has been around for almost 40-years initially capitalizing on the stringent seismic requirement of the early seventies which allowed concrete pre-cast, pre-stressed piles to become the pile of choice. Today, piles must support heavier loads in compression, tension and lateral directions due to many considerations including the popular non-redundant pile designs. Increasing government regulation and more and more infrastructure projects have forced pile driving contractors to wear many hats to meet client demands. Keeping abreast of industry products, keeping track of bid letting, and staying abreast of government regulation requires more personnel to manage jobs. More personnel require more expense and stronger cash flow. On the flip side, these demands also provide pile contractors more opportunities to build strong client relationships and expertise.
